早餐的意义
回国后最怀念的一件事竟是和大家一起吃早餐。因为回来后，我都睡到‘早餐’是什么都不知道了，所以我认为能和家人之外的人吃早餐是很难的。 它好像是‘我们曾经生活在一起’的最佳证据。
好想念在叶家对面的早餐店！有土司，蛋饼和寿司。
朱小姐是我的 ｆｏｏｄ ｍｏｄｅｌ．不知道为什么，在餐桌上，她就是很习惯性的都坐在我的正对面。有好多好多早餐在這裡

on the 7th day of taiwan, my true love sent to me...
(27th May) - Alishan 阿里山／Yu Shan 玉山／Taipei 台北
we woke up at 4.30am in order to get to Yu Shan 玉山 - the tallest mountain in taiwan at 3000+ meters above sealevel. It was 4 degrees in the morning but in a bid to travel light, instead of bringing a coat, we wore several layers underneath. it was funny watching maggie count the layers and once i got out of the car, i was always jumping around to keep myself warm.
getting ready to observe the sunrise with the UV shield, which made what we saw turn purplish as seen above.
without which, you will be squinting under the bright glare. like what we were doing for the above picture... trying to keep our eyes open.
did i mention that it was beautiful?
and cold.

at such high altitude, you can see the clouds below the mountains, making the clouds look like a sea. check out the wave. that's why its call 云海。did i mention that it was beautiful?
when i first checked out the pictures of Alishan on Flickr (such as this), I thought i came across a water colour paintings. The mountains were just hues of blue so much so they look painted on. But it REALLY looks like that, the mountains together with the clouds and the fog gave the whole place its mysterious allure.

after that, we went down the mountain back to the Alishan Recreational Park. Park is such an understatement, we were totally lost in a FOREST. we took 3 hours to get out of it.
and enjoying our 森林浴.
(所谓森林浴，是由桑拿浴、日光浴等派生出来的一种时尚流行语，意即到树林中去沐浴那里特有的气息、氛围。据日本森林综合研究所对森林浴的一项最新研究成果表明，吸入杉树、柏树的香味，可降低血压，稳定情绪)
we had wanted to stay at Alishan awhile longer to enjoy the superb climate and scenary, but due to the checkout time we decided to leave by 12pm but all in good timing because with the van ride down Alishan + bus journey back to Taipei.... it was nearing 8pm when we reached Taipei.

on the 6th day of taiwan, my true love sent to me...
(26th May) - Alishan 阿里山
this is my favourite leg of the trip - there was everything to love about it. the weather, the scenery and the blessing we received.

From Chia Yi, we had to transfer to the Alishan Rail - which is one of the only 2 trains that climbs mountain, or so they claim.
The whole journey up to Alishan last up to 3hours but the scenery up was a good prelude to what we were going to experience later on.
this has got to be the most precious group photo with a whole big story behind it. in short, the people who took the picture for us, became the people with whom we toured alishan with and later on offered us their place in taipei to stay in. 叶爸妈 and 林爸妈 are really our Godsent blessings, making our trip to taiwan more beautiful and meaningful.
and the train climbed on for the next 3 hours, and we got higher and colder.
finally at Alishan, which was around 2500m above sealevel.
and at 15 degrees. WHOOHOOO. escape from the summer heat....
everything gets prettier from here, at night we went for our hunt for fireflies.

and the entire sky of stars. it was exceptionally beautiful especially for city kids like us and the Hongkongers where our brightly lit city robbed us of such a beautiful night sky.
but we still had to get back to the hotel to catch whatever sleep we could till 4.30am the next morning when we had to wake up to catch the sunrise at 玉山. Thank God for korean technology, we had 'heatable beds' to keep us warm throughout the night, although i woke up at one point thinking i was about to become barbecued pork.
Alishan's really beautiful, hopefully there will be a chance to return during the season of the cherry blossoms or we can go up the central highway to the mountain that snows. 比冰箱还冷哦！(thats what this driver / tour guide likes to tell us) but im sure its going to be a heck of an experience.

on the 5th day of taiwan, my true love sent to me...
(25th May) - Taichung
f&e day at taichung so we decided to go sing k in the morn. we saw many KTVs during our bus ride and was amazed by their sheer size. some of their ktv building itself looks big enough to be a shopping mall. so we let our imagination run wild on how the ktv would be with drop down screen and projector. lo and behold... it was true!
completed with tambourine just like korea!
and BOY am i glad that my travel companions loves 猪脚 too.
after which we went in search of our taiyangbing 太阳饼 store.
after we ordered our tai yang bing, the couple got lazy and went back to the hotel to rest while jfeng and i continued to hunt for BASKIN ROBBINS!! (it was my idea actually)
we walked for almost 2.5hrs across empty lanes until we reach another civilization where we saw many people and DOGS. they were having a pets adoption day and dogs were everywhere.
including this bulldog.
and FINALLY BASKIN ROBBINS after 3 hrs of search! liping would have been REALLY PROUD of me.
jfeng and i found a bus back to the hotel to meet up with the couple and found maggie crying because..... she was watching I NOT STUPID. (wa lao!) and then we spotted these fireworks from our windows. and off we went to a nightmarket which seems so near yet so far.
lesson learnt in taichung: dont trust how places may look near on the map. THEY ARE NOT NEAR.

on the 4th day of taiwan, my true love sent to me...
（24th May) - Jiaosi, Taichung
like i said, jiao si is a hotspring town. there's nothing much to do except soaking urself （泡汤）, and there's nothing much except streets and streets of 汤屋。(see if u can spot the signs)
then off to Taichung 台中 by bus! Fortunately in tw, there's always 黑轮 （'or len' in hokkien = oden in japanese) for travel food. in manda's dad's words, it is just japanese yong tau fu but at least its nice japanese yongtaufu.another thing about buses is that its DARN COOL. there are 2 common tv screens (think tv mobile) in front of us showing different shows, and on our armrest there is actually a control which allows u to play the audio to which channel you want to watch and the sound comes right out of the headrest of our seats! i rewatched 'day after tomorrow' during that 3hrs odd journey.
when in taichung, you can't miss the biggest nightmarket in the whole of taiwan - 逢甲夜市！（Feng Jia NightMarket). It was a saturday so the place is PACKED, it was difficult to move much less shop. instead of a blow by blow account of what we ate, let's just introduce my favourite...
芋冰！ i love yam and this is my favourite 冰 amongst all that we tried.
the reality interlude
have been exchanging stories of overseas adventures for the past few days since i got home - adventures in korea, japan, australia, new york, europe. being only human (thus greedy), i wished i was part of each and every of those journeys.
that's life isn't it? how God sets you down one path and not the other. i'm hoping that i try to make the best out of each and every journey and not to waste time staring over at the other patch of grass.
back home, it about getting back to the reality of job hunting. but its like starting all over again after that 2 weeks of holiday and i can't help but feel all jittery and nervous even though the interview today was informal. in all honesty, all i want now is get a move on.
that's life isn't it? how God sets you down one path and not the other. i'm hoping that i try to make the best out of each and every journey and not to waste time staring over at the other patch of grass.

this is 妞妞 the resident dog which i have grown to adore because she's really docile and doesn't bark incessantly. should have seen the way she yelps and spins in excitement when we were playing with fireworks.
we opted for a free & easy afternoon at Hua Lien, so we scooted off on our bikes in search of the sea.
