hello from hualien

hello from hualien!

has been great so far - we haven't fought or drove each other crazy and we're currently at a really nice minsu with great hospitality. stealing some time after breakfast and we are heading for some cycling, beach and baseball next!! after which we'll be heading to jiaosi for hotspring.

the only regret is that it has been drizzling on and off so we arent able to play with fireworks last night...

但愿人長久

a week later, people are hanging on. the rescue efforts, fund relief, the news are still going on.
hang in there.

Singaporeans who wish to make a donation can do so via the Singapore Red Cross Society here.

王菲 陳奕迅 楊乃文 阿牛 合唱 但愿人長久

this fund raising event is also faye wong's 1st public singing appearance since her retreat in 2005.

mire mire!

u are currently listening to "so nice" by Olivia Ong - who is a Singaporean and also a 1985. yes, all 23 years old like me but has a singing career which was first launched in Japan. She does bossa nova which is 1 genre of music i came to like.

i'm not very much musically inclined when it comes to playing instruments. but my music tolerance is rather wide from pop to rock to folk to R&B to jazz to soul to mando to canto to english, korean, japanese, EVEN bollywood. JUST EXCEPT opera, techno and trance.

For me I find it abit hard to differentiate some of the music genre like how to tell R&B and soul apart or jazz from bossanova, but i thought it would be a tad more respectful that i at least find out more about what I listen to.

Bossa nova is derived from brazil and is very much likened to jazz and samba. In fact, its style origin is from the Afro-American Jazz and the Brazilian Samba. The most popular would be the first bossa nova single "Girl from Ipanema". I did try searching for more bossa nova songs or singers but usually get only covers of the same old few songs so if anyone knows any popular or nice singers/songs, feel free to share!

leaving you with

Someone to hold me tight
That would be very nice
Someone to love me right
That would be very nice
Someone to understand
Each little dream in me
Someone to take my hand
And be a team with me

So nice, life would be so nice
If one day I'd find
Someone who would take my hand
And samba through life with me

Someone to cling to me
Stay with me right or wrong
Someone to sing to me
Some little samba song
Someone to take my heart
And give his heart to me
Someone who's ready to
Give love a start with me

Oh yeah, that would be so nice
I could see you and me, that would be nice

ep 17: hate is safer than love

does the writer strike explain why THIS SEASON OF ONE TREE HILL IS SO BAD?!

the last episode was so stacy's mom and for 17 whole episodes it revolved around the same thing and the whole thing feels like their tape got stuck at episode 1. the worse is that the next episode 18 is season finale AND it feels like nothing even started.

urgh!!! that's my tv talk for the weekend.

wasai taiwan!

there's like FOOD, CLOTHES, BAGS, SHOES and BEAUTY PRODUCTS i want to haul back.

in your hands

they say no news is good news but the world is kept occupied recently with news of natural disasters in myammar and china.

this scene was played on the news today - a 19 year old chinese girl was saved after being trapped for 40hours. and today the day she got saved is also her 20th birthday and there in her stretcher, the rescue team broke out into a symphony of a birthday song.

that birthday song sounds so right yet so wrong.

food and games

food and games at Bedok 85 & HideOut.
we make us so happy.

hachi nana

and all these were supposed to
spur your heart on with lofty ambitions.
Nana and her pride. The Alchemist with "Personal Legend".
But thats before things remind you that they are all fiction
and that hiroki narimiya is gay.

on the topic of facing reality,
i know its not goth
it is just unsightly dark eye circles
and i'd never look like nana.

sotong

we thought we had everything under control - with accommodations booked, itinerary planned, budgeting done, bags packed (for the kiasu me) and money changed yesterday at Chinatown until.................. maggie realized this morning that we shortchanged yb's money.

i think now the guys will know better than to put 2 girls who are insensitive to numbers and blur in charge of any matter that involves money/numbers/counting. fortunately we got it settled after going down to chinatown again and a certain amount of argument and finger pointing with the moneychanger. (PHEW.)

this will teach me to be more careful and less complacent! may everything go smoothly from hereon.... 10 more days to taiwan!

i think i

unknowingly
you became a memory saved
from the glasshouse days
a picture that isnt mine
but to take out time to time
just so to remember by a face to a name
that i ever so frequently forget.

friendster Live

meeting new people is something i can't quite hold my opinion on
i dread the awkward silences or polite small conversations (especially when it usually revolves around what you are studying and thats it. there's nothing left to talk about)

but its fun when there's a common activity, in which today's is ktv, maybe because we are saved from such conversations. with breaking voices, missing notes/rhythm/lyrics, somehow laughter comes easier and the atmosphere less pretentious.

well in her own words, fiona is friendster/facebook LIVE.

stranded

day after day, she opens up the book of options. Thumbing her way through, underlining and crossing. With it, it seems that it’s all getting clearer. With all those crossing out, we are supposed to know. We were supposed to know. As if the act of elimination is supposed to direct her to a one clear absolute direction. It was supposed to be so. Until it seems like all the doors seem to be closing on her and there is nowhere to go.

It’s almost like spinning the globe and jamming that one finger in. There. The rule is to go where the finger points at. That’s the rule, but the reality is, we can’t get there.

Location: Don Pie Club
Add: 20 Cross Street. #01-34/35/36, China Square Central
fi's 2008 bday dinner with Norwegian exchange guests invited.
as usual we were too busy eating, so we didnt capture the pies which were better than their crab bee hoon, which we thought was too peppery.

Altus Dignitas

now that the grades are out, i can officially put this SMU stone out of my heart and be thankful at least I didnt drop from high merit to merit!

jan, let's not woe that we don't have a latin name on our certificate. we can secretly erase "High Merit" off and replace it with "Altus Dignitas". (sounds better than cum laude eh??) bloody atas latin.

oh, i am so feeling this new weight called CAREER now.

the food series - macaroons

Location: Gloria Jean's
A birthday affair organized by del, fi and manda
completed with macaroons from Canele

manda says:
"good macaroons are not supposed to break
when you cut them up"
i hope that as we find our own standing in this transition
and despite our differences,
how difficult it is to organize gatherings
which may be even more so than ever in future
we can be a one darn good macaroon.
